Hexagram 11 — Peace (Tài)
- harmony
- prosperity
- flow
Earth (receptive devotion) over Heaven (creative strength)
Meaning
Heaven and earth commune; the small departs, the great arrives. A time of flourishing, harmony, and easy exchange.
Peace is pictured as heaven placing itself below earth so their forces interpenetrate — prosperity as circulation, not accumulation. Such openness is seasonal; the hexagram's quiet warning is that this gate did not always stand open and will not stay open forever.
Love & Relationships
Mutual understanding blossoms; share plans and grow together. In good times, do the maintenance that hard times will draw on: say the appreciations out loud, settle the small grievances while they are still small.
Career & Work
Conditions favor expansion and cooperation; act while the gate is open. Expand now, but institutionalize the goodwill — contracts, documentation, relationships beyond a single champion. Booms reward those who build drainage before the rain stops.
Advice
Use good times to build lasting foundations; peace requires tending. Hold this counsel lightly but seriously: the I Ching describes the shape of the moment, and Peace rewards those who move with that shape rather than against it.
Changing Lines
In Peace, changing lines often show the first hairline cracks in a golden age — the city wall destined to fall back into the moat. A moving line asks you to enjoy the harmony without believing it permanent, and the transformed hexagram frequently names the specific way ease will next be tested.
